A qualified MD as well as the creator and key writer for The Good Karma Hospital television series. Dan is from south-west England (b. 1971/2). His mother was a doctor and his father was a civil servant. He is a British medical and crime screenwriter. He graduated in medicine in 1995 and previously worked as a surgeon before taking up broadcasting. He took a short course in script writing in 1999 to see what it was like and began commercially in 2000 with Doctors but continued to work part-time in an A&E department alongside for many years.

Early in his medical career, about Ruby's age, he worked in Cape Town, South Africa and these experiences would inspire events in the Good Karma Hospital. He returned to medicine full-time to help the NHS during the 2020 pandemic, earning praise from many of the series cast and crew. At the end of the traumatic Series 3 finale, he tweeted on 29 March 2020 "Taking time out from writing next season of #GoodKarmaHospital to go back to help out the NHS. I think this [stethoscope] still works, let's hope I do!" Later after the episode aired in the UK, he also said, "Will Gabriel return? Who knows!"

His major production credits are as creator/writer of Gates (2012, Sky One), Delicious (2016) and Trust Me (2017) as well as The Good Karma Hospital. The latest venture is The Mallorca Files for BBC in 2019.
